A number of Hamas officials led by Izzat Al-Rishq have arrived in Lebanon to meet Lebanese President Michel Aoun and a number of officials, Quds Press reported yesterday. Speaking to Quds Press, Hamas’ representative in Lebanon, Ali Baraka, said the delegation would discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the internal reconciliation with the Lebanese officials. Baraka said the delegation is presenting a message to the Lebanese leadership that Hamas cares about Lebanon’s security and civil peace and rejects the use of Palestinian refugee camps in the internal Lebanese conflicts. “We are not a party of any internal Lebanese crisis and our eyes will continue looking only towards Jerusalem,” Baraka stressed. He also said that his movement’s delegation […]
Israeli authorities yesterday approved building permits for 240 new homes in settlements in occupied East Jerusalem, reported AFP. A city planning committee approved 90 units in Gilo and another 150 in Ramat Shlomo, as well as 44 units for Palestinians in Beit Hanina. Israeli NGO Ir Amim condemned the move. “Jerusalem residents deserve to live in a safe and thriving city, which will only happen once there’s a fair agreement that recognises the Israeli and Palestinian ownership of the city,” said the organisation’s spokesperson Aviv Tatarsky. “Instead of advancing such an agreement, Israeli authorities continue with the same familiar unilateral moves that only distance it.” East Jerusalem forms part of the occupied Palestinian territory, held by Israel under military occupation […]

He went for a hunger strike that lasted 94 days in protest against his detention. He was released in 2016, but in January 2017, he was re-arrested at an Israeli military checkpoint in the north of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. A number of Moroccan groups have condemned Israeli participation in the Open Weight World Judo Championships starting on Thursday in Marrakech, Anadolu has reported. In a joint statement, a number of Moroccan political and student bodies, including the ruling Justice and Development Party, condemned the arrival of Israeli judo player Ori Sasson in the country. Sasson waited until Wednesday to receive an official confirmation letter for his participation in the championship so that he could travel to Morocco. Israeli occupation forces destroyed a Palestinian-owned commercial building in the French Hill district of occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday, Quds Press has reported. Local sources said that the Israeli-run municipality has been trying to seize the land since 2012 in order to build a car park for illegal settlers who visit the French Hill Park. The park is […]

The Israeli occupation authorities announced on Wednesday that the area near the border of the Gaza Strip is now a “closed military zone”, Quds Press has reported. Israeli citizens are now forbidden from approaching or entering the zone. The decision was taken because Israel is afraid of surprise attacks by Palestinians following its bombing of a tunnel which killed 12 Palestinians on 30 October. Immediately after the bombing, Israel declared the area to be a closed military zone, but on 5 November, that decision was rescinded. No details have been given about why the Commander of Southern District in the Israeli Army, Major General Eyal Zamir, has announced that the area is again a closed military zone. Palestinian civil defence […]

Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir yesterday accused unnamed parties of attempting to distort and falsify his country’s history. “Some entities organise systematic campaigns to falsify Sudanese history and civilisation because of the historical, geographical and cultural dimension enjoyed by our country,” Al- Bashir said during a visit to the Sudanese National Museum in the capital Khartoum. The president announced the formation of a government committee to address the problems facing the local tourism sector and its development and rehabilitation.
